Background: ‘7’ by Jackie Lynch is an individual’s story that emerged first during the ‘Lifestories’ Project in B.C.N.U. in 2019. The story of ‘7’ is an example of a hidden story of traumatic emotional intensity being revealed in an environment of mutual and collaborative trust. This 2020 project captured the oral testimonies of a woman, called ‘7’ as her former identity was erased, as she spent 17 years in a Midland’s institution as a child.
Jackie sought to capture the essence of the story of ‘7’ through the medium of film using animation, sound recordings, video and photographic stills to both reach out to new audiences and expand her artistic practice. Using specific narrative based practice, Jackie engaged with the legacy of the discomforting topic of institutional incarceration in the Midlands of the 1930’s & 40’s. With documented original artefacts she created original artwork in response to 7’s testimonies.

In 2021 musician, film & sound professional Connor Keaveny will join Archive Artist Jackie Lynch and Visual Artist Rowena Keaveny to bring a contemporary lens to what is an historical and sensitive story in ‘7’ The Documentary, an Anam Beo Production by Jackie Lynch in collaboration with Rowena Keaveny and Connor Keaveny. This Artists in the Community Project is funded by Offaly County Council. Connor is accomplished, professional, his work is thoughtful and demonstrates attention to detail. He is qualified in Film and Television Production with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Technology and Production. As an experienced sound engineer, lighting technician, video editor and musician he will collaborate with Jackie and Rowena to compose the music for the documentary and compile the various pieces of media (photos, video, audio recordings and testimonials) which they have already worked on. Using his experience in music composition & sound production, the technical and creative skills to help unpack this meaningful story of ‘7’ into documentary format. In light of recent inquiries and national debate into Magdalene Laundries and Mother and Babies homes, this documentary will be the collaborative artists perspective and response to the ongoing traumatic narrative of our recent history in our collective communities.
